I recently saw Cold Mountain for the second time. While the story is quite tragic in and of itself, I was especially struck by the stark beauty of the final scenes. I love the tonal black and white of the winter mountains and forest, juxtaposed against Nicole Kidman’s blond hair and peaches and cream complexion.

Were the mountains a metaphor for the way lives were affected by the American civil war? Does the blush on Kidman signify the hope for the future? O.k. that’s a bit deep for me, but …. maybe.

As much as I’m about color, I also love the moody tones of light and shadow in a snowy forest scene. Here I’ve picked out shades of grey and blue.
Have a good week, hopefully it’s not too snowy.

Love all the colors that you have highlighted here…wintry, sultry and yes, very moody…but all so pretty!
I have a little something for you over on my blog today!!

I love Cold Mountain! One of my favourite movies, I really appreciate it now after living in Virginia and exploring the Smoky Mountains and Blue Ridge Mountains!
Great colour combos.
