Mo’ Funk Designs’ Blog Mood Board

Last week, amidst writing report cards, I began a course on blogging (Blogging Your Way). I’ve been so excited to begin and get my creative juices flowing. The picture above is my mood board, that defines my style. Sometimes it’s hard for me to do, I have liked so many things over the years. First and foremost I love color, but I also love crisp ,clean, neutrals.

I’ve included a piece of lace trim I’ve had for probably 20 years, a tatted doily made by my aunt (who recently passed away). Hand crafting and love and respect for handmade pieces has been in my family for generations. I’ve added the tools of my art my sketchbook and a pair of pliers (they are great, the white handles are a perk), plus a few finished pieces, because that is so much a part of my life. The paper clips and clear thumb tacks are a nod to my lack, but desire for tidiness and organization.

I’ve added a bit of nature and this picture (plus I’m a freckled redhead too) about the beauty of nature because that is in my soul. I’ve spent many years learning about birds, insects, plants and the world around me. You’ll see some of that influence in a few of my posts.

Fashion had to be a part of my mood board as that directs my art and I’ve been obsessed for a long time. If you’ve ever been to my house you would see a ‘few’ venetian mirrors and mirrored frames. I love the sparkle and reflective quality of them. Perhaps I was a magpie in another life, big surprise, I like shiny things. In the last year I’ve really started to include top seasonal fashion trends, using some of the great blogs out there for inspiration and information. One of my goals has been to focus on these trends and create cohesive collections.

Such an interesting process you’re engaged in, Maureen! It’s so important to understand what motivates & inspires us in our work/pleasure/life and oftentimes we’re – each of us – completely out of touch in this regard. In fact, I think I’ve just described myself! Ha!! This is definitely an exercise I should sit down and so my self… soon!
Thanks for sharing this little bit of you
