I’ve maybe written about it before, but part of my creativity comes from my dad. It’s Father’s Day tomorrow and he’s away visiting family, but I will be thinking of him. I thought I would give you a bit of a sample of just a small part of his amazing creative talent.

My love and use of blues and greens come from growing up seeing these paintings in various stages of completion around the house. He has always been inspired by the Group of Seven (Canadian icons) and I’m sure many of you can see the influence. When I smell the distinctive aroma of oil paints I immediately think of his tattered paint box and splattered hat. I always look for familiar trees when I travel to familiar places, the more wild and gnarly the better. So many times as a child my mother entertained us by the side of the road so he could trek off and make a quick sketch.
So Happy Father’s Day Dad!

I love your Dad’s work, Maureen!!! I was thinking his paintings were “Group of 7-esk” when, sure enough, you wrote that he was inspired by their fabulous work. It’s a style I love too… no wonder I’m drawn to your dad’s beautiful landscapes!!!
